Jarrolds is a large, family run department store in Norwich, England. It is situated at the corner of Exchange Street and London Street. The business was founded in 1770 in Woodbridge in Suffolk,[1] moving to Norwich in 1823. The current building was designed by George John Skipper (1856–1948) between 1903-5. Nikolaus Pevsner describes it as baroque in style.
The Jarrold department store has been through a major refurbishment on its ground floor. Its main rivals in the city are the John Lewis Partnership and House of Fraser department stores.
It is a part of the Jarrold and Sons group of companies,[2] which includes Jarrold Properties and previously included Jarrold Publishing prior to its sale to Sutton Publishing.[3]
The company sponsored the construction of a new stand at Norwich City F.C.'s Carrow Road football ground, now known as The Jarrold Stand, and the original 4-year sponsorship deal has now been extended through to 2013.[4]
